Curtis, Silver. "Fighting the Fear of Social Media". Wired. September 3, 2009. September 13, 2009.
This article was about the stereotypes some people or businesses have for social media or social networking. some of the stereotypes include, fear of giving up personal information, the fear of online predators, and accepting or declining friends or foes form the past. these are some of the driving concerns for the people afraid of social media. most are laughable such as giving up to much information. you don't even have to put your real name. web sites like myspace make little information madatory, things like screen names may be the only thing. Another aspect of this article is businesses that have not yet adapted to social networking or completely refuse it. most just need to find out if there customers use social networking and if so then it is a no brainer to also do so.
I thought was a very informative article, I agree with everything this guy has to say about the pros out waying the cons for both personal use and from a buisness standpoint. My favorite part of this article was when the author said "but you may as well never leave the house and never let your family out of the house as well."he was reffering to people being afraid of online predators. i agree the internet is no safer than the real world. I'm not saying that you don't have to take precautions but i do agree thats it's better to use social networking than, be safe from online predators.
